Ramos wants UEFA Cup win more than Carling Cup

Tottenham coach Juande Ramos JUANDE Ramos insists winning the UEFA Cup is more important for Spurs than Sunday’s Carling Cup final with Chelsea.

Tottenham have one eye on Wembley as they face Slavia Prague tonight in the second leg of a last-32 European tie which they lead 2-1 on aggregate.

But Ramos claims the White Hart Lane clash is a bigger priority than the chance to win the first silverware of the season.

He said: “Sunday is not the biggest game of my career. A European final has to be more important than a domestic one.

“It’s important for the fans, because they are very passionate and have waited a long time – but you can’t compare that with a European final.

Sunday is not the biggest game of my career. A European final has to be more important than a domestic one Juande Ramos “The priority is the UEFA Cup game, because it’s the next one. I’m sure the fans will agree with my perspective. We have to win against Slavia.”

Chelsea seemed to have prioritised the Carling Cup by resting key men in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

But Ramos, who is going for a hat-trick of UEFA Cup wins after winning it twice with Seville, claims he will not do the same.

He said: “What Chelsea did makes me think they are giving more priority to the final, but for us the UEFA Cup is a priority.

“We must beat Slavia, and then we have three days to prepare for the final. We will select the right players to play in each game.” A howler from keeper Radek Cerny in Prague has opened the door for England reject Paul Robinson to stake his claim for the final.

But Ledley King is unlikely to be risked for the match, and for all the manager’s talk, Dimitar Berbatov may start on the bench.
